Won’t go back – ever I manage a fleet of 9 vehicles. I wanted to try a different garage than my regular shop, just to check someone else’s service. I had heard good things about Browncroft garage a few years ago, so I decided to try them and brought in a 10 year old SUV with about 148,000 miles. The vehicle had a check engine light. When I called to make an appointment, I told them its age and that I didn’t want to put too much money into it due to age and miles. They quoted me a diagnostic charge in advance. I thought it was a bit high ($160), but agreed. I left the vehicle, and a bit later got a quote to replace a sensor - which fixed the check engine light. I also got a text a list of these problems: -slight wheel bearing noise -no oil in dipstick, engine leaking -tire pressure light flashing -front marker bulb (not turn signal) out -engine/transmission external oil soaked -lower hose clamp cooling system leak -PS rack oil soaked -exhaust system hole beginning to form -control arm bushings deteriorated -brake fluid contamination, cooling fluid contamination I had gotten involved with the service writer on some of the details of the fluid contamination, so I forgot to ask about the no oil in dipstick. But they let me drive the vehicle out of the shop with no oil!!! When I returned later to ask about this, I was told that the writer (I’m paraphrasing) didn’t make it his business to give customers too strong recommendations because they thought he was ‘selling’ too hard on repairs. What kind of a repair shop let’s you take your vehicle out with no oil??? (FYI I knew the vehicle was suing oil and regularly check it, but had forgotten to this week.)
